Learn More: Technology, Security, and Immortality

Welcome to the deep dive. This section is for users, engineers, and information specialists who need a fundamental understanding of how Piql works, the advanced security standards we uphold, and the underlying technology that guarantees your data’s existence for over 1,000 years.

We go beyond the "what" and into the "why," detailing the migration-free assurance, the cyber-immune security model, and the open-source methodology that defines true digital preservation.

🛡️ Data Security

Our approach to data security is unprecedented in terms of storing data offline and offgrid - here we also explain all the other components involved in how Piql handles data security.

💾 The Piql System & Fundamental Technology

The Piql system is a complete, end-to-end preservation workflow built on robust, standardized components, ensuring reliability from data ingestion to future retrieval.

Piql System technology

We use three core hardware components to achieve guaranteed longevity and future access:

  1. piqlWriter: The proprietary technology that encodes digital files onto the photosensitive piqlFilm at a microscopic, high-density level.
  2. piqlFilm: The specialized storage medium tested to last 1,000+ years.
  3. piqlReader: The high-speed, high-resolution device used exclusively to retrieve preserved data from the film and convert it back into digital files on demand.

Representation Information on piqlFilm

To overcome the challenges of technological obsolescence, the film itself is self-contained and self-describing—a key requirement for long-term digital preservation standards (OAIS compliant).

  • Open Format: Digital files are converted to an open-source, non-proprietary format before being written to the film.
  • Human-Readable Guide: Every reel of piqlFilm contains human-readable text and images describing the decoding process and the software needed, ensuring future generations can understand how to build the necessary reader technology.
